About Us

Expressway Hire Service located in Moss Street, Slacks Creek in Brisbane, is a Queensland owned and operated company that has been providing  hire equipment and delivery service since 1965. We hire equipment to builders, painters, bricklayers, handyman and DIY enthusiasts. 

Cam Ralston (founder/owner) a registered builder and one of the “early settlers” of Woodridge, later to become Logan City – owning a couple of sets of trestles, planks and a cement mixer was approached by local builders in the district to hire his tools and equipment.

As the area developed and grew, Cameron invested in more stock and Expressway Trestle Hire was born. 

Not the easiest of tasks to run a business when there was no phone service to the area (orders were phoned through to a number at Camp Hill) and the bank was at Woolloongabba. 

Despite these obstacles…they managed and the business grew.  So much so that living in a house on the business premises became a 24/7 arrangement by default, that after one eventful evening (2am), a drunk carpenter entered the open carport under the house and hit the bedroom floor with a lump of 4×4 timber, chasing 2 x floor clamps to hire – the young married couple decreed it was time to move the business elsewhere.

Very conveniently, the Moss St, Slacks Creek industrial blocks were being developed for sale.  If you flick through our photo gallery – there is a historical photo of our shed being built in 1974 – the fourth shed built in Moss Street.

Essentially Expressway Hire is, and continues to be a family owned, operated and orientated business. I (Tracey, that’s me…the baby in the photo with the FJ Holden) recall hopping off the bus at the gate of my final day of schooling, grade 12, walking up the driveway, when Dad (Cam) asked me if I could help him out for a couple of days?  To which I replied “Yes Dad, but only for a couple of days” Famous last words…that’s near on 30 years now LOL.

We do stock a wide variety of equipment that we look to expand throughout the year and as needs change.  We may not stock everything, but it will always be our ambition to help you.
